Doctrines and Beliefs
We affirm the core tenets of Christian faith, including the deity of Jesus Christ, His atoning death, and His resurrection. We affirm the literal truth of Genesis 1-11 and the Bible's account of creation, emphasizing a recent creation, Adam and Eve, a literal Fall, a global flood, and a young age for the Earth.
We Believe:
-
In the literal truth of the Bible: The Bible is the inspired and infallible Word of God, and its accounts of creation, the Fall, the Flood, the Tower of Babel, and subsequent history are factual and accurate.
-
In a recent creation: God created the heavens and the earth, and all that is in them, in six literal 24-hour days, relatively recently, roughly within the last 6,000 years.
-
In limited biological change: Animals were created to reproduce "according to their kind" (Genesis 1). The original kinds were created with built-in genetic diversity, allowing them to adapt and radiate within limits.
-
In the first couple: Adam and Eve were the first man and woman created directly by God. They were not preceded by a larger population of pre-human species.
-
In a literal Fall: Both physical and spiritual death entered creation as a consequence of Adam’s sin. Death, disease, predation, suffering, and violence were not part of God’s original “very good” creation.
-
In a global flood: The Bible describes a worldwide flood that devastated the Earth, as recorded in Genesis, and this flood was responsible for much of the fossil-bearing sedimentary sequences.
-
In the Godhead: There is one God, eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
-
In Jesus Christ: He is the Son of God, fully God and fully human, who died on the cross for the sins of the world, was resurrected, and will return again.
-
In the Holy Spirit: The third person of the Trinity who convicts of sin, regenerates believers, and empowers them to live a life pleasing to God.
-
In salvation by grace through faith: Salvation is a free gift from God, received by faith in Jesus Christ, apart from any works of our own.
-
In the ultimate authority of Scripture: The Bible is the ultimate authority for faith and practice, and we strive to live according to its teachings.
